“生态纺织品”是指那些采用对周围环境无害或少害的原料制成的并对人体健康无害的纺织产品。具体来讲，生态纺织品内容涵盖以下三方面的内容：
1．生产生态性——从生产生态学的角度，控制包括从纤维种植、养殖、生产到产品加工的全过程对环境无污染、产品自身不受“污染”；
2．消费生态性——从人类生态学的角度，考察纺织品中残留有毒物质对人体健康的影响；
3．处理生态性——从处理生态学的角度，控制纺织品可回收利用、自然降解、废物处理中其释放的有毒物对环境无害。
目前，生态纺织品主要指从生产生态学或人类生态学的要求出发，符合特定标准要求的产品。其中又以后者占大多数，这类生态纺织品重点是控制如有害染料、甲醛、重金属、整理剂、异味等有害物质。
