| 金红石 rutile 钛的氧化物（TiO2）矿物。含钛60％，常含铁、铌、钽等。四方晶系，晶体呈粒状或针状，通常为四方柱与四方双锥的聚形；柱面上常有纵纹；膝状双晶常见。集合体为粒状或致密块状。褐红色，含铁高时呈黑褐色，金刚光泽，莫氏硬度6.5，比重4.2，柱面解理清楚。作为副矿物常在花岗岩、片麻岩、云母片岩、榴辉岩中出现；在伟晶岩中的金红石 ，成分富含铁、钽、铌；在区域变质过程中，往往由钛铁矿分解而成，出现于片麻岩中。还常见于区域变质岩系的石英脉内或砂矿中。金红石在砂矿中富集时，可作为提炼钛的矿物原料。人工制备的粉末状金红石称为钛白，用作白色颜料 。由焰熔法合成的金红石晶体无色透明，可添加各种颜色而成美丽的宝石，质量优于天然晶体。
