   用涂料在基体材料表面形成有机覆层的材料保护技术。金属基体上的涂装层应有良好的附着性、柔韧性、抗磨失性、抗撞击性、保色性、保泽性、阻挡性、缓蚀性以及与机械产品更新期相近的耐用性。涂装有多种方法,电泳涂覆和静电涂覆适用于成批生产的机械产品;无气涂覆加高压无气喷涂适用于小批生产的大工件;流涂适用于管道内壁。在船舶制造中,刷涂、辊涂和高压无气涂覆并用。涂装过程的温度和相对湿度,对涂料使用性能和涂装层的附着力有很大影响。常用的涂料分为溶剂型和水型两类,是由主要成膜物质(如合成树脂、桐油、漆等)、次要成膜物质(如颜料、金属粉末、填料等)和辅助成膜物质(如溶剂、稀释剂、增塑剂、水等)构成的混合物。此外,还有凡立水(油性清漆)、腊克(树脂清漆)等。涂装前,基体材料常要经过酸洗、喷粒、磷化、铬酸盐化等前处理。涂装后需要固化,有烘干和气干两种方法。
