【来源】
为葫芦科植物赛金刚的块根。
【植物形态】
赛金刚 多年生草质、攀援藤本。块茎扁球形盆状。茎细长，具棱，卷须与叶对生。叶互生，具柄；叶片叉指状，小叶7～9，披针形，中间小叶最大，长6～10厘米，宽1.5～3厘米，边缘有锯齿。花小，黄绿色，单性，异株，排成圆锥花序，腋生；雄花花萼5深裂；花冠5深裂，雄蕊5，分离；雌花较小，花柱极短，柱头2裂。蒴果椭圆形，顶端平截，3瓣裂。种子多数，狭卵形，压扁。花期5～7月。 生于山坡、竹林阴湿处。分布我国西南地区。
【采集】
全年可采，而以秋季藤蔓枯萎前采挖者佳，切片，晒干。
【化学成分】
含皂甙和苦味素。皂甙的甙元主要是齐墩果酸，糖为葡萄糖、葡萄糖醛酸等。

《云南思茅中草药选》："苦涩，寒。"
【功用主治】
《云南思茅中草药选》："清热解毒，消炎杀菌，收敛止痛。治菌痢，急性肠胃炎，胃及十二指肠溃疡，脘腹痛，腹泻，尿路感染，高热，咽喉炎，扁桃体炎，便血，神经衰弱。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，2～3钱；或研粉，2～4分。
【临床应用】
治疗菌痢，肠炎，急性扁桃体炎，腮腺炎，牙周炎，暴发火眼，泌尿道感染，脓肿，外伤等30余种疾病计420例。结果治愈328例(78%)，好转80例(19.1%)，无效12例(2.9%)。以对消化、呼吸系统疾病疗效较为显著，对急性细菌性痢疾、急性扁桃体炎效果最为满意。显效时间一般1～3天，疗程2～7天。用法：将曲莲洗净，切片蒸熟后晒干，研粉内服，每次1～4分，每日2～3次，小儿酌减。对扁桃体炎、牙周炎等疾病采用含服法，见效较快；对外伤、疮疖等外科疾病，内服同时可配合外敷。治程中一般无副作用，但多服时会有恶心、腹泻现象。凡属寒性疾病不宜应用。心脏病患者应慎用。
