Located in the north of the middle Yangtze paraplafform, the Huangling faulted dome is an important metallogenic area for lead -zinc ore deposit, which is controlled by the Sinian Dengying Formation.
黄陵断穹位于扬子准地台中段北部,为铅、锌重要成矿区,震旦系灯影组对铅、锌成矿起到了重要的层控作用,局限潮下相和滩缘相是铅锌聚合的有利岩相古地理条件,成岩期及后期改造作用是矿化富集的重要因素。

我们研究了峡东庙河陡山沱组灯影组界线剖面，获得ＲＥＥ及其它微量元素异常和大量微球粒等灾变事件的证据，从而判定庙河生物群的大绝灭是由于陡山沱期末的一次地球灾变事件的结果。

长江第一石——灯影石
四块兀立山巅的奇石，酷似《西游记》中唐僧师徒西天取经的形象，每当夕阳西照，晚霞映衬峰顶时，远远望去，它们仿佛灯影戏幕上的人物造型，惟妙惟肖，“灯影石”即由此得名。当年郭沫若先生游历灯影峡时，曾题诗赞叹：“唐僧师弟立山头，灯影联翩猪与猴”。
灯影石中最负盛名的是沙僧石，被誉为“万里长江第一石”。它矗立在悬崖绝壁之巅，呈蘑菇状，重达100余吨，底部的承重截面仅200余平方厘米，平均每平方厘米承载近半吨的重量，堪称世界奇观。
