生产方法：主要采用缩合法。以苯和氯化苯甲酰为原料，在无水三氯化铝催化剂及溶剂存在下进行缩合反应，然后经稀酸分解、分离、蒸馏、重结晶而得。
用途：酮类合成香料。作为廉价香料广泛用于香皂。也是东方型香精的调合香料，还可用作定香剂。
