   材料或结构承受外力而不发生破坏的能力。按所承受外力的作用形式可分为静强度、冲击强度和疲劳强度等。按环境温度可分为常温强度、热(高温)强度或冷(低温)强度等。材料强度可用屈服强度、强度极限(见材料力学性能)、疲劳极限(见疲劳)等指标度量。结构强度是指结构的极限承载能力,它不仅同材料强度有关,而且同结构的几何形状、构件配置、外力作用形式等有关。强度问题是工程设计中最重要的问题之一。房屋倒塌,堤坝溃决,飞机、飞船坠毁,高压容器爆破等大都是由于强度不够所致。因此,对于重要结构或受力件,均须按强度要求进行计算和实验。
