【来源】
为鸭跖草科植物水竹叶的全草。
【植物形态】
水竹叶 一年生草本。匍匐茎节上具不定根，茎圆柱形，一侧有细绒毛。叶互生；线状披针形，长4厘米，宽5毫米，先端尖.基部鞘状包围茎上。圆锥花序，由叶腋抽出；萼片3，草质，绿色；花瓣3，倒卵形，蓝色；发育雄蕊3，退化雄蕊3；子房无柄，雌蕊1。蒴果椭圆形，压扁状，背裂，长约8毫米，粟柄上部呈三棱；种子一行排列，扁平。花期9～10月。 生于阴湿地、水稻田中或水边。分布西南、中南及华东各地。

夏、秋采收，晒干。

《泉州本草》："味甘，性平。"
【归经】
《泉州本草》："入肝、脾二经。"
【功用主治】
清热，利尿，消肿，解毒。治肺热喘咳，赤白下痢，小便不利，咽喉肿痛，痈疖疔肿。 ①《福建民间草药》："利尿，泻热，消肿，解毒。" ②《泉州本草》："治丹毒，疔疽，脚气，心脏病，热痢，发热狂痫，咽喉肿及蛇蝎虫伤等症；外敷治关节肿痛。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，3～5钱(鲜者1～2两)。外用：捣敷。
【选方】
①治肺炎高热喘咳：鲜水竹叶五至八钱。酌加水煎，调蜜服，日二次。 ②治肠热下痢赤白：鲜水竹叶一两。洗净，煎汤，调乌糖少许内服。 ③治小便不利：鲜水竹叶一至二两。酌加水煎，调冰糖内服，日二次。(①方以下出《泉州本草》) ④治口疮舌烂：鲜水竹叶二两，捣汁，开水一杯，漱口，约五至六分钟，一日数次。 ⑤治疮疖：鲜水竹叶三两，冰糖五钱。炖服，并将药渣敷患处。 ⑥治鸡眼：鲜水竹叶和冬蜜捣烂敷患处，日换二至三次。(④方以下出福州台江区《验方汇集》) ⑦治指头炎未成脓者：鲜水竹叶茎叶一握，醋糟少许。共捣烂外敷。(《福建民间草药》)
