Sino-French cultural festival opens with art exhibit in Beijing
2019-04-27
To present contemporary French art and further promote Sino-French cultural ties, the works of 14 winners and nominated artists of the Marcel Duchamp Prize greeted art lovers in Beijing on Friday.
The exhibit also kicked off this year's Croisements Festival, a series of events celebrating cultural exchange between China and France, on the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Marcel Duchamp Prize has become one of the most famous and influential national awards in the world since its establishment by the Association for the International Diffusion of French Art in 2000.
For the past two decades, the award has sought out the most innovative artists residing in France. At present, it has contributed a comprehensive roster of emerging artists to the contemporary art world.
Focused on the concepts of travel and discovery, the selected works invites visitors to reflect on every means of locomotion possible, from the simplest and most universal – walking – to the most technological and exclusive – a rocket.
During the past 14 years, Croisements has become the largest-scale foreign festival in China and the biggest French festival on the international scene.
Each spring, the festival shows French creation and the Franco-Chinese "crossroads" existing within numerous disciplines: theatre, dance, music, visual arts, cinema and books. The 14th Festival Croisements takes place from the April 26 to July 6, and presents over 60 programs in 35 cities in China.
