China wrap up Asian Athletics Championships with 3 golds on final day

BEIJING - China bagged three gold medals and one national record on the last day of the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Xie Wenjun raced to gold in the men's 110m hurdles, setting a personal and season's best time of 13.21s, and lowering the championship record of 13.22 set by China's former Olympic and world champion Liu Xiang in 2011.

Elsewhere, sprinter Xie Zhenye pulled away in the final meters to lift the men's 200m title in 20.33s, and China also clinched a one-two finish in the women's discus, as Feng Bin won with a championship record distance of 65.36m, followed by Chen Yang with 61.78m.

Feng's victory wrapped up China's perfect run in the women's throw events in Doha, after the team won the other three events in hammer, javelin and shot put.

Meanwhile, the Chinese quartet of Lu Zhiquan, Wu Lei, Yang Lei and Wu Yu rallied to renew the country's national record in the men's 4x400m relay in 3:03.55, claiming second place behind Japan who took gold in a time of 3:02.94.

After four days of competition, China ended up second in the medals tally with nine golds, 13 silvers and seven bronzes. Bahrain finished top with 11 golds, while Japan rounded out the top three, taking five gold medals.
