China Daily Emoji Design Contest winners announced

What is your favorite emoji? Have you ever seen emojis with a Chinese culture theme? Can you imagine what will happen when the noble traditional Chinese culture encounters amusing and humorous emojis?

The Emoji Design Contest for Chinese Cultural Symbols, organized by China Daily, announced its winners Jan 3 (Click here to get the full list).

The contest, which called for entries from across the world, centered on Chinese culture and aimed to find emojis that represent classic or popular images of China.

More than 140 submissions were received from netizens from September to Nov 25, 2018. The entries included emojis depicting intangible cultural heritage, pandas, Chinese food, traditional festivals, historical figures and mythological figures.

While highlighting historical Chinese culture, the submissions also reflected the close relationship between traditional culture and modern life.

Considering design level, concept, interactivity and international communication, our judges have decided that The Magical Brush A'hao wins first prize, Paper-Cutting Pig and Idioms and Panda win second prize, and Journey to the West, New Year Pig and Loong win third prize.

According to online voting, Emoji of Chinese Culture, Chinese Zodiac, Dumplings and Chopsticks, and Panda Nannan win the most popular prizes.

Ru Yi, the first-prize winner of this contest, was very excited when he learned that he had won. "It's quite difficult to design an elegant and static brush into an interesting and dynamic emoji. I am very grateful to the judges and netizens for their approval, and this award will be the driving force for me to create things in the future," he said.
