Animated film The Grinch arrived in Chinese mainland theaters on Dec 14, with Chinese actor Pan Yueming bringing the eponymous anti-hero to life for local audiences.
The film is adapted from a story written in 1957 by American children’s author and cartoonist, Dr. Seuss, showing the importance of love and tolerance by telling the tale of residents in Whoville, for whom Christmas is their like favorite time of year, and of the Grinch who dislikes it immensely.
According to Pan, “This film shows the power of emotions, and is suitable for audiences of all ages.”
He agreed to dub in this film because “It’s very interesting, and I have watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so I want to dub it as a way to pay tribute to the artists who created that film.”
British actor Benedict Cumberbatch voices the Grinch in the English version of the film and Pan notes that he listened to the Sherlock and Dr Strange actor’s vocal track very carefully before doing his own work.
