There is an ancestral hall in Sanxi village, Ji'an city of Jiangxi province, where exquisite ancient calligraphy and paintings have remained preserved. The hall was built in 1826, during the reign of Emperor Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). There are more than 120 calligraphy pieces and paintings in the meticulous gongbi style on the caisson and ceiling of the ancestral hall. These paintings feature figures, landscapes, flowers, birds, insects and fish, as well as folk tales and illustrated poems.
