U.S.-led coalition attacks Syrian military sites, causing damages
2018-12-03

The U.S.-led coalition fired several missiles on military sites in central Syria on Sunday evening, causing damages only, state-run SANA news agency reported.

The missiles targeted some military positions south of the town of Sukhneh in the eastern countryside of Homs province in central Syria, said the report.

It said the attack left material losses only.

No further details were yet given by the state news agency, but some opposition activists said the U.S.-led attack was initiated in the U.S.-run base in al-Tanf area in countryside of Homs near the Iraqi border.

Activists said the attack targeted a convoy of Syrian army in the desert region in Homs countryside, speculating that the convoy was close to the U.S.-run base.

The attack came just days after Israel targeted Syrian military sites in the town of Kisweh south of the capital Damascus.

The attack by the U.S.-led coalition is not the first to target Syrian military sites.

In June, U.S.-led airstrikes targeted a Syrian military position in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, leaving casualties.

In May, 12 pro-government fighters were killed by U.S. strikes on Syrian positions in Deir al-Zour as well.

The largest attack was carried out by the U.S., Britain and France in April against several military sites across the country as part of retaliation against an alleged chemical attack.

The Syrian government has repeatedly condemned the U.S.-led attacks, particularly those targeting civilians in Deir al-Zour on the pretext that they are targeting Islamic State (IS) militants.

The government repeatedly urged the UN Security Council to put an end to the violations of the U.S.-led coalition in Syria.
