The Sichuan Food Culture Tour 2018 was held in Nepal's capital to promote cuisines and culture of the southwest Chinese province among the Nepali people.

The special show was hosted in Hyatt Regency in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening by the Sicuhan Provincial People's Congress and Sichuan NGO Network for International Exchanges in coordination with the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.

The spectacular event was attended by Nepali Speaker of House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Forest Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress and Vice President of Sichuan NGO Network for International Exchanges Liu Jie and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong.

Addressing the function, Nepali Speaker Mahara highlighted the age-old relationship between Nepal and China and the special role of Sichuan Province to boost the socio, economic, and cultural relations.

"China's Belt and Road initiative has tremendous opportunity to explore the relations between the two countries. I believe that Nepal-China railway through Sichuan's transportation network will open up more opportunities to connect the people of the two countries," Mahara said.

Over a dozen Sichuan dishes were served in the food fiesta prepared by master chefs with ethnicity and originality. Small panda-shaped desserts were particularly the favorite of Nepali food enthusiasts.

On the occasion, Liu said Sichuan and Nepal have special relations dating back over 2,000 years, while the cooperation in various fields like trade, tourism, health and education has been increasing.

Chinese Ambassador Yu said that such events are important for cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two neighbors.

The food culture tour also showcased enthralling performances by Chinese artists on Sichuan opera, contortion, puppet show and masked dance.

The event was attended by around 200 people including government officials, diplomats and representatives of business organizations and media.
