Four-month puppy was set free after the internet outcry
2018-11-26

A four-month old puppy in the UK was reunited with his family after being detained by police, following a wave of support and pleas for his release on social media.

How did the puppy named Bungle end up in jail? Well, Bungle the puppy sneaked out when his owners were at work.

The Hayes family bought Bungle for £2,000, but he escaped from the family's £2million property. However, his time on the run did not have a happy ending.

The puppy bungled his adventure when he ended up blocking the street. A policeman responded to complaints of a dog on the loose holding up traffic. When he tried to grab this little thing out from under a van, the startled puppy nipped him. Bungled it!

According to a police chief inspector, the officer was not seriously hurt, but he had to go to a local hospital for precautionary checks, antibiotics and tetanus vaccination.

Northamtonshire Police later seized the puppy under the Dangerous Dog Act, and he was facing a sentence of nice months custody.

Classic U.K. police, sounds like Paddington the bear movie all over again. And like the well-loved Paddington, Bungle was also loved and missed by the public.

To start with, Bungle's owner, David and Susan Hayes created a Facebook page under the name "Bungle The Chow" and unleashed a major social media campaign. And then, thousands of people joined an online campaign with #FreeBungle. A petition for his freedom had garnered more than 10,000 signatures. Later on, the dog was even featured on the cover of the Sun, a household U.K. tabloid newspaper.

Chief Superintendent Chris Hillery later commented on the dog's release, "In no way was this decision impacted by the media reporting. Having gone through a proportionate investigation and risk assessment, the dog has been returned with appropriate conditions to manage any future risk."

Now Bungle has been reunited with his family just like Paddington in the movie. All is well. And he can have a jolly Christmas with his family in that mansion. A word of advise, perhaps don't run around chasing the snow next time.
