A film featuring Chinese couture designer Guo Pei won the Essence of Fashion Award at the 7th Fashion Film Festival Chicago.
Directed by Olivier Ronot, the work recorded the story of the designer’s solo exhibition "Guo Pei: Couture Beyond" at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta in 2017.
The exhibition displayed over 40 signature designs from Guo, who was the first Chinese designer invited to join the prestigious ChambreSyndicale de la Haute Couture.
Along with the exhibition a book, covering new and archival pictures of Guo’s designs and the introduction of her career, was released.
Paula Wallace, president and founder of SCAD, said it is their honor to work with Guo to publish "the first grand compilation of her work as part of the SCAD Museum Book Collection".
Wallace called Guo "in a league of her own" and suggested readers find the "ethereal and magical world" the designer created.
Making her debut at the 2016 Paris Fashion Week, Guo is enjoying rising popularity at both home and abroad.
Yet she still keeps a low profile and tries to bring new ideas into her designs.
The designer also gave advice to young people endeavoring to realize their dreams.
"Young people wish they can be successful and rise to fame, yet fortune and fame should not be the goals. The passion for the things you work for is the most important thing, which can inspire you to create more," Guo said.
