Documentary follows ancient route of cultural exchange
2018-11-21

The documentary Searching for the Lotus-Born Master explores the mystic aspect of the southern Silk Road. Director Laurence Brahm said he wants to prove that the Lotus-Born Master, or Padmasambhava, is an important cultural and historical figure among South Asian countries and closely connected to the origin of quantum physics.

In extreme conditions, after six months of intense filming, the crew followed the Buddhist master Padmasambhava's trail, more than 20,000 kilometers, climbing snow-capped mountain peaks, finding the sacred lake and exploring the hidden caves where he meditated.

"This was a remarkable journey," Brahm said. "The Lotus-born Master can serve as such a cultural icon as he traveled throughout the southern Silk Road. His journey from Pakistan, to India, Nepal, Bhutan, and western regions of China helps to establish the connectivity and globalization of the eighth century, as a prototype for the Belt and Road Initiative."
