BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- US President Barack Obama has revealed that a number of letters have been exchanged between him and new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
In an interview on US T-V channel ABC, Obama said recent diplomacy on Syria, backed up by a military threat, was a potential model for negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Obama gave no details of the letter exchange, but he made clear that US concerns about Iran’s nuclear program are a larger issue than Syria’s chemical weapons. He said Iran should never assume the US won’t launch military action over the nuclear issue.
Tehran denies seeking to develop nuclear weapons, but the US and Israel say Iran has made significant progress in developing them.
