Strong rainstorms hit SW China
CHENGDU, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Strong rain has affected more than 508,000 people in southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, local authorities said Wednesday.
The downpours have been battering most parts of Sichuan since Monday evening. Precipitation in some parts of the province reached 500 to 600 mm as of 7 p.m Wednesday, while water levels in 8 small and medium-sized rivers in Sichuan rose above the warning level, according to official statistics. Rainstorms claim 16 lives in China
BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Serious rainstorms have left 16 people dead and 19 missing since Sunday in China, said the Ministry of Civil Affairs here on Wednesday.
The disasters have affected 1.67 million people in 15 provincial divisions in China as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a ministry statement. Full story
