Digital transformation has become a new strategy of many cities in China, as the big data, artificial intelligence and 5G sectors are jointly accelerating digital development.

Wuxi, a city famous for the development of its internet of things (IoT) sector in East China's Jiangsu province, is speeding up digital transformation in both industrial and household fields.

With the launch of the Wuxi National Internet of Vehicles Pilot Area in 2020, the use of IoT in transportation was officially pioneered in Wuxi. Transportation remains a top priority when it comes to urban construction.

"The application of IoV will enable a smoother traffic flow and will largely guide transportation safety in the future," said Zhang Yulong, marketing department regional manager of Aerospace Daway Technologies, a third party company in charge of building the IoV Operation and Management Center in Wuxi's Nanshan IoV Town.

As a strategic emerging industry, IoT means much more than monitoring the conditions of a certain road or serving the safety of drivers. The topic of IoT in general healthcare is more profound in Wuxi.

With the increasing growth of medical digitization, the concept of smart medical care has gradually become more prevalent. As one of AstraZeneca's largest manufacturing investments in Asia, its Wuxi branch has been committed to protecting public health through the application of IoT in the medical field.

"Through our wearable dynamic ECG recorder, the medical center can receive the real-time ECG status of patients. This early warning mechanism supported by the IoT can save lives in the shortest possible time. We hope to save more lives in the future with our little device," said the project staff.

No matter which industry it is, from the perspective of enterprises, IoT enables them to get first-hand data from users, which is conducive to the decision-making of enterprise executives in corporate strategy, marketing, research, and development.

It is these enterprises that have brought new development concepts and technologies to the city of Wuxi, leading to the growth of the city's IoT industry.
