Chongqing tops the List of Cities with the Most Super High-Rise Residential Buildings in China, according to a recent report.
With more than 2,200 super high-rise residential buildings, the southwestern municipality is followed on the list by Wuhan, Chengdu and Xi'an.

According to the Beike Research Institute, which issued the report, the domestic definition of a super high-rise is a building taller than 100 meters. The institute selected residential buildings with more than 30 floors as samples. The general distance between floors in China is 3.3 meters.
In addition to the number of high-rise buildings, unique mountain land forms also add charisma to the "skyscraper municipality".

The report said the number of super high-rise residential quarters in Chongqing is 17.8 times of that of Beijing. Typically, the number of high-rise residential buildings in the southern cities surpasses that of northern cities because of factors such as terrain, sunshine, urban planning and development level.
Nowadays, broader vision, better ventilation and brighter lighting of super high-rise residential buildings appeals to home buyers, although elevators and fire safety have been questioned, the report said.
