Police shot and killed a man who allegedly did a kidnapping in Wuhua district in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, at around 5 pm on Friday. The hostages were rescued, local police said.
An investigation of the case is still underway, according to a statement posted by the district's public security department via its Sina Weibo account. More details, such as how many hostages were involved and whether they were injured, have not been released.
Several video clips published by Chinese news outlets showed the kidnapping happened at the gate of the Experimental Middle School Attached to Yunnan Normal University, where many bags were scattered on the ground. Media said the hostages were two students. |
