China's tablet computer market showed quick recovery, with shipments in the second quarter this year reaching about 6.61 million units, up 17.7 percent year-on-year according to a report from global market consultancy IDC released on Tuesday.

The growth can be attributed to improved production capacity, the continuation of incomplete orders from the previous quarter and a large amount of inventory replenishment, IDC said.

Telecommuting, online courses and home entertainment continued fueling consumers' demand. However, shipments still dropped 5.4 percent in the country's tablet computer market in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year, due to excessive impact from the epidemic on production capacity in the first quarter.

The consumer market witnessed promising recovery in the second quarter, with tablet computer shipments standing at about 5.61 million units, up 25.9 percent year-on-year. The commercial use market saw a 14.1 percent yearly decline, with around 990,000 units during the period.

Apple's iPad regained its top position in shipments in China's second quarter, reaching about 2.76 million units, up 18.7 percent year-on-year and taking a market share of 41.8 percent.

Huawei saw the highest yearly surge of tablet shipments in the second quarter, an increase of 59.5 percent year-on-year to about 2.45 million units, and held 37.1 percent market share.

Microsoft and Lenovo took third and fourth spot in shipments during the period, which registered 230,000 units and 170,000 units, respectively.

IDC also predicted in the future, the proportion of ordinary consumers buying tablets for online education use will remain at around 35 percent for a considerable period of time.
