Ancient wall collapses in Xi'an, injuring four

Part of an ancient city wall in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, collapsed on Saturday morning, leaving four people injured, one bus and three private cars damaged.

Authorities say the incident happened due to the persistent rain in the city in recent days. [Photo by Zhao Xinying/China Daily]

The wall, located in the city's Xincheng district, dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The wall was restored in 2009 and about 20 meters of the restored wall collapsed around 9:30 am, hitting people and vehicles passing by, according to local authorities.

The authorities said the incident likely happened due to the persistent rain in the city in recent days.
