Nanshan ready for even better economic performance
2020-06-10

With an outstanding economic performance in 2019, Shenzhen’s Nanshan district is poised to make even better grades and to achieve its two centenary goals as it embraces the 30th anniversary of its founding.

The district’s GDP exceeded 600 billion yuan ($84.63 billion) in 2019, an increase of 78 times over its GDP of 30 years ago, ranking first for growth in China.

Under recent downward pressure, its GDP growth rate has demonstrated its economic quality and resilience.

It attracted 61 investment projects with registered capital totaling 64.5 billion yuan. The newly-built Nanshan Science and Technology Finance Town, one of the six major financial bases in Shenzhen, is now home to a group of Global Fortune 500 innovation centers and 21 key financial institutions including CMB Wealth Management.

Enterprises in the district in 2019 showed a strong driving force for its innovation-driven development. There were more than 4,000 national high-tech enterprises holding PCT international patent applications, about one eighth of the country’s. Ten projects won “National Science and Technology Awards” last year.

The district’s three major strategic projects and three key demonstration projects also made breakthrough progress.

Nanshan launched several strategic projects including an international science and education center, a high-speed railway new city and construction of the Shenzhen Bay CBD area in 2019, with an eye on development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In 2020, Nanshan will cultivate a “corridor”, a “city” and an “avenue” as three advanced demonstration areas to improve its urban image, industrial layout and urban productivity pattern.

The Shenzhen Bay Cultural Corridor will connect the OCT, Houhai, Shekou, Qianhai and other cultural sites in the district and attach cultural connotations to the Nanshan headquarters economic belt that integrate creative design, traditional culture, avant-garde art and cutting-edge fashion.

Shekou International Ocean City, designed as a 12-sq km core area of Shenzhen, the international ocean city, will further marine technology, marine culture, port economy, cruise economy and other industrial sectors.

Another development area, Nanshan Silicon Valley Avenue, is expected to link the district’s innovative above-ground and underground industrial resources.
