Harry and Meghan to stop using HRH titles and receiving public funds
2020-01-19
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will no longer use their royal titles or receive public funds for royal duties, a statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Saturday evening announced.
The news comes in the wake of the couple's announcement earlier this month that they wished to step back from front-line royal duties, and to divide their time between the United Kingdom and North America.
The palace statement said while the couple, who are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, "no longer formally represent The Queen, they have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty”.
The Sussexes have also shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain the UK home for them and their young son Archie.
Buckingham Palace does not comment on the details of security arrangements. There are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly funded security.
