Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit UAE; the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Pakistan; EU leaders will meet in Brussels for a European Council summit; the seventh Military World Games will be held in central China; and UK MPs will have a special sitting to decide the future of Brexit.

These are the international events under the spotlight for the week starting Oct 14.

Russian president to visit UAE

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Oct 15.

Putin is scheduled to hold talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces.

The two sides are set to discuss means to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple fields as well as a host of regional and international developments of mutual interest.

During Putin's visit, 15 agreements in the fields of nuclear power, oil and environment will be signed, which will open new horizons for joint action in various sectors.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit Pakistan

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will pay an official visit to Pakistan on Oct 14-18.

During their four-day visit, Prince William and Princess Catherine will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan and learn about how communities in Pakistan are rapidly responding and adapting to the effects of climate change.

This will be their first official visit to Pakistan.

EU leaders to meet for a European Council summit

EU leaders will meet in Brussels on Oct 17-18 for a European Council summit.

During the two-day summit, leaders will discuss the long-term EU budget on the basis of the work of Finland's presidency.

Moreover, leaders will also discuss the state of play regarding Brexit, and a follow-up to the strategic agenda and the priorities for the EU for the years 2019-2024.

Wuhan to host the seventh Military World Games

The seventh Military World Games will be held in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on Oct 18-27.

The event is expected to have nearly 10,000 military athletes from over 100 countries and regions in participation.

Operated by the International Military Sports Council, the sports event for military athletes was first held in Rome in 1995.

UK MPs to have special sitting to decide Brexit future

The British House of Commons will have a rare sitting on Oct 19, the day on which British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is tasked with seeking a Brexit extension if there is no deal with Brussels.

By Oct 18, politicians in Britain will have a clear picture of the European Union's (EU) response to the Brexit deal brokered by Johnson after the crucial two-day summit of the European Council ends in Brussels.

Johnson is expected to give a full report of the summit to the MPs and he is also likely to face questions about parliament's legal instruction to seek an extension of Britain's departure date from the bloc, penciled in at the moment for Oct 31.
